Stress Less By Being Organized

Had you seen this cabinet a couple of hours ago you would understand why I am so proud of myself and had to take a picture of this. Hours ago this cabinet was such a mess. As you are probably aware of, because you probably have the same issue at your house, the cabinet where you keep all of your plastic containers is always something you dread opening up.

You dread it because¬† if the containers aren’t flying out attacking you the minute you open it up, then you cannot for the life of you find a matching top. So not only are you frustrated but you are also stressed because you do not want to spend your precious time looking for the elusive top. But still the food has to be put away.

I have tried organizing this cabinet before. In fact this is actually my daughter’s chore to keep it organized but you know how this is. In the past I would nest the like containers one inside the other with the tops near by. This did not work because once you unload the dish washer there was no place for the new plastic containers to go. So people would just sling the containers and lids in the cabinet and quickly close the door.

So tonight instead of complaining I decided to do something about it. I pulled out everything and matched the lids with the containers. Any container or lid that didn’t match I threw them out.¬† I then put each lid on its container and stacked them on top of one another instead of nesting them. This way when you need to get a container you just reach in and get the size you want and the lid is already attached, no searching for it.

I am ecstatic about this because it will be really quick and easy to get a container. When the other containers with their matching lids come out of the dishwasher or refrigerator, the container along with the lid will be attached and added to the stacks inside of the cabinet. There is more room in the back, because I stacked the ones that we use more frequently in the front, especially the smaller ones which are usually harder to find.

I wanted to share this with you because I don’t know anyone that doesn’t have this problem. If you don’t have the room you probably need to get rid of some of the containers anyway. One of the things I like about this is that it will be an easy system to keep up. This is really important when you have other family members that are using the containers also. This should eliminate a good amount of stress from both you and your family’s life.

I’d love to hear any comments that you may have or answer any questions. I am excited to see how long this will last. I will keep you posted. Have a great day!
