Did You Know …… An Interesting Child Development Fact

In addition to teaching dance I am so fascinated and in love with learning about child development. Because I am interested in the whole child and developing each and every child to their highest potential, I feel that I must learn about child development in addition to staying abreast and being trained in the dance disciplines that I teach to children.

Did you know that after the fourth week of conception a baby is already capable of hearing. Isn’t that amazing! So by the time a woman finds out that she is pregnant the baby can already hear. What I find so fascinating about this is that you can have a grand time developing a relationship with your child by reading and talking to them even before they are born. Doing this also helps them with language skills in the future.

When I was pregnant with my daughter my husband and I read the Bible to her. It was a wonderful way to involve my husband while I was carrying her. She would get so excited when we would all be together reading that she would look like she ran up and down and around in my belly. My husband and I would crack up it was the funniest thing to us and we loved watching her move around.

Reading and talking to her in the womb was very helpful once she was born. When she was delivered she was crying. By this time we had already had her name picked out. So he told her that’s it’s alright and said her name. Just hearing his voice she stopped crying immediately. I thought that was amazing and it left such an impression on me.

So make sure to say nice things to both the mommy and the unborn baby when you see pregnant women. Remember the baby¬† can hear you. Now this is my personal opinion, but I believe that even though babies can’t exactly understand the words they can feel the vibrations from the words and can tell whether they are good words or not good words. I feel that they can do this just like we can walk into a room and feel the vibes from that room or a person.

I also believe that since they are so connected to the mother that they pick up and can sense what the mother is feeling and how the words are affecting her also. That is why it so important to treat the child and mom nice and also treat the child as if they are here because they are.

I would love to hear about your experiences and feedback. Please feel free to leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.

  1. I always see people talking to bellies and often the mom will say the baby moves so I believed that they could hear but didn’t realize it was so early! That is really neat.

I think it’s neat also Michele. I think a lot of us didn’t know that hearing develops so early in a baby. Thank you so much for commenting and stopping by. Please feel free to stop by again. :-)

  2. As a matter fact both heredity and enevironment determine the child’s development and what you do after birth is more important.

Hi Iype thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your comment. I really value and appreciate the comments and opinions of my readers so thanks again for sharing. While I do agree with you that both heredity and environment determine the child’s development, I cannot agree that what we do after birth is more important. While in the womb a foundation is being created, and when you are building anything a relationship, marriage or home the foundation is a crucial part of it and effects the whole both now and later. This is why I am so passionate about raising awareness about what we can do to help develop happy, healthy and smart kids starting from the beginning(from the womb) on into adulthood. Yes, after the child is born what happens afterwards is very important. My point of view is that if parents can give their children the best possible start in life starting from the womb they would. :-)
